The
Methodist mission in Belton is to work with the whole community alongside our
fellow Christians to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ in ways that are
relevant, meaningful, and attractive to future generations of any age group.
Morning
services start at 10.30 a.m. in the schoolroom to the rear.
The
schoolroom is open on Tuesday mornings for coffee and a chat, and Tuesday
afternoons for a craft club.
Worship is
currently taking place in the schoolroom, recently redecorated by members and
friends. The chapel itself is out of use while plans are being prepared, and
funds raised, for its repair and renovation. The chapel roof was repaired in
January 2002.
The chapel
is in a prominent position on the High Street between the C of E Primary School
and the Public hall; not far from the doctor's surgery.
The local
Parish Church is about a mile away. Joint services with the Anglicans include a
communion service on the second Sunday of the month - at All Saints in February,
May, and August (plus the Remembrance Day service), and at the Methodist
schoolroom in January, April, July and October, besides the monthly afternoon
service with the connected Parishes on the third Sunday of the month.
We
aim to
Renovate our premises in phases to provide open,
flexible, comfortable and secure space in a prime position in the village, with
a positive Christian atmosphere.
Develop our popular coffee morning, timed to serve the
nearby doctor's surgery, as an attractive meeting point for residents during the
day, thereby facilitating relationships between the traditional community and
people newly moving into the area.
Consider the possibility of providing on site access to
computers
-
For coffee morning
users.
-
For homework clubs, if
these could be set up in co-operation with others.
-
For computer skills
workshops, if this could be arranged.
-
For the occasional
enhancement of worship.
-
For use by a Junior
Church, if re-initiated.
-
For producing quality
publicity and communications material.
Make our premises available to the wider community.
Find informal ways of making new friends
Present ourselves and the Gospel positively
Build on our relationships with other community groups
Take up any opportunities to improve access / parking
Continue to respond with loving care to neighbours and
friends.
In all this we are ready to accept and work with change on
the understanding that this will be focussed on the Gospel of Christ and not the
maintenance of a building for its own sake. We see ourselves as stewards of
premises key to the village in size, style and position, but this stewardship is
undertaken as our part in Christ's service of our community, and if we agreed
that his service might be better fulfilled through releasing the building to
others in the community, we would be prepared to do that.
